This isn’t your everyday felted wool pillow. Last year we started testing different ways to make pillows using our organic wool. We didn’t want the normal experience of itchy reactions from the wool, or a pillow that was too delicate for the washing machine. Our sheep are lovingly sheared annually (it’s the equivalent of a haircut). They wear coats to protect their wool which allows us to not use the harmful chemicals required to clean the loose straw and hay they pick up. Those chemicals are what cause the itchy reaction you get from those woolen sweaters at home. The wool is then washed in gentle detergents with solar hot water in a special felting process. We dry and felt the wool all in house.
