The 9th gift that my garden gives me is that it is true. A plant cannot be hurried, coerced or tricked into creation. The garden runs on its own timetable by nature’s laws. If you are not true to your plants if you try to cheat them or trick them the will not create for you. Their rules, their time tables; we are just the caregivers.
At the farm, we had a special guest Andrew Nowak. Andrew is one of the founders of Slow Food Gardens, a national program from one of our favorite organizations Slow Food. We wanted to learn more about his school programs and inspiration for teaching kids the wonders of growing their own food.
What gifts has your garden given you? The 8th gift the garden has given us is life. The life-giving peace and nutrition that we receive from the garden is incredible!

I carefully harvest the most amazing vegetables then bring them home to my beloved family. I say to them, “Look at what I grew”, with a smile as big as my vegetable, my chest exploding with pride. This is one of the best feelings in the world and I co create this with my garden.
Sometimes things go awry in my garden and I have to be tolerant of imperfection and the time it takes to get things right again. Mother nature has her own time table and I must play by her rules. The 6th gift the garden gives me is tolerance.
