How to Take Out Tomato Plants
Before you take out your vines make sure to harvest your final tomatoes. I prefer to go through and pick all of the ripe, blushing and green tomatoes separately. This gives me more control over how I store my tomatoes for the rest of the season.
Once all of the tomatoes are harvested un-clip the vines from their support string except for the top clips. Make sure to save your clips for next season! Un-clip the top clip last and save the clip and tomato string for next season. If you are in a raised bed be careful of stepping in the bed. Pull the tomato plant from your bed and compost. When you take out tomato plants or any other plants in your garden that are in the nightshade family do not feed them to your chickens. It can be poisonous to them.
With these pro tomato growing tips you can create a high performance system for growing your tomatoes. They are one of my favorite rewards from my gardens and this techniques have given me so much success!
