How to Have an Affordable Garden

The first thing you will do is to keep your garden organic and in harmony with nature. Working together with Mother Nature’s systems will not only save our planet, it will also make your gardening system so much more affordable. This takes an initial investment in creating a healthy soil food web. If you were to grow in the soil in your backyard you will be constantly amending the soil, battling weeds and common diseases to your area. This soil food web once it is created can last for decades. When you build your own soil for your garden it will need to be easily drainable, full of minerals and completely organic so that the natural soil food web can thrive. All this soil food web will need is feeding for the beneficial microbes. The best way to feed your microbes is to use your own compost and compost tea to feed your plants. These are both easy to make and take little time to do. It simply takes a little practice.

Another way to keep your garden affordable is to cut down on the space you are fertilizing or composting. In a traditional low performance garden you will feed your entire garden plot. This includes your rows of plants and the paths between your plants. By containing your soil in a raised bed garden system you have the opportunity to only feed the space your plants are in. Instead of feeding the weed population you can directly get to your plants with ease and keep them well fed.

By making these initial investments in your garden system you can save $1,000’s in the decades that these gardens will last. This is one garden system that can literally cost just pennies a day!
